Artist Statement
I work in many media and styles, employing diverse conceptual, formal, and methodological approaches to explore the interrelationships of contingency and determinism, chaos and order. Most recently, my abstract ‘Random Walk’ paintings combine a random process with intuitive mark making to develop a dialogue about chance and intention. The processes I employ often comprise some negotiation between choice and non-choice—between methods outside of control and determined elements. To me this offers a metaphor for the contingent flow of life and points to the fragility and impermanence of things.
